There are many advantages if you use React to build your PWA. One these advantages is better discoverability.

If you develop a Single Page App (SPA), you will have the client-side JavaScript which will execute in the browser and Google would then be able to index it.

React provides the method React.renderToString() , which will render a React element to its initial HTML. You can use this method to generate HTML on the server and send the markup down on the initial request for faster page loads and to allow search engines to crawl your pages for SEO purposes.

Another advantage of using React for PWA is Async Import.

It often so happens that a user does not use a certain part of the app. But our app has to bundle all the components and their dependencies into the bundle.js file. By doing this, not only does the size of app increase, but the app also takes longer to load.

We can instead use Async Import to define Higher Order Component (HOC) that will load different parts of your app only when the user needs them.

By implementing the above code, your app will load the LineChart file only when the user requests.

Google has provided us with two useful apps called Lighthouse and Workbox to help us build better PWAs.

Lighthouse is a tool which is very useful for auditing an app for PWA features and checking whether your app meets a respectable bar for web performance under emulated mobile conditions.

Lighthouse is available as a Chrome extension and a , both of which provides a report that looks something like this:

The top-level audits Lighthouse runs effectively a collection of modern web best practices refined for a mobile world:

Network connection is secure User can be prompted to Add to Homescreen Installed web app will launch with custom splash screen App can load on offline/flaky connections Page load performance is fast Design is mobile-friendly Site is progressively enhanced Address bar matches brand colors

Here’s a getting started guide for Lighthouse.

The February 2016 issue of included the research article “,” by Emilia Sanabria, who is a lecturer in social anthropology at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France. This Teaching Tools post presents some of Sanabria’s reflections on her work with the World Public Health Nutrition Association, as well as her suggestions for learning goals and supplementary readings when teaching her article in the classroom.

Obesity is generally framed as a problem, but as Sanabria points out in her article and underscores in the excerpt from her interview with contributing editor Susan MacDougall presented below, this framing emerges from a fraught process of knowledge production that delineates what is known and what cannot be known. This post offers some tools for using Sanabria’s article to prompt a classroom discussion on the process of establishing the un/known. It assumes an audience of anthropology students at various stages, including advanced undergraduates and graduate students, as well as other people with an interest in health, including anthropologists, medical professionals, and practitioners in health-related fields.

Susan MacDougall: What inspired this article? Did you have specific experiences or encounters that helped you to clarify your thoughts on ignorance and agnogenesis?

This article is inspired by the work I have been doing with the World Public Health Nutrition Association (WPHNA). I discovered the WPHNA at a conference they co-organized with the Brazilian Association of Public Health in Rio de Janeiro in 2012. I had recently begun new research on food and health education and had attended nutritional conferences, which are usually marked by the highly visible presence of industrial sponsors like CocaCola, PepsiCo, Kraft, Nestlé, Danone, and so on. The WPHNA event in Rio was very refreshing because the keynotes focused on the politics and economics of malnutrition, which is rather (and perhaps surprisingly) rare at events like these; nutrition conferences that bridge biological and political mechanisms are few and far between.

Emilia Sanabria:

I decided to get involved and joined the WPHNA’s Executive Committee as membership secretary (a job that entails verifying members’ conflict of interest declarations). I was involved in discussions with colleagues in the field of public health nutrition leading up to the International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) that was held in Rome in 2014, two decades after ICN1. These discussions brought together the World Health Organization, member states’ representatives to the Food and Agriculture Organization, as well as other nonstate actors, and they revealed the staggering level of corporate lobbying that had taken place over the yearlong process of drafting the Political Declaration and Framework for Action. This was nothing that we didn’t already know, but witnessing the process from this vantage point helped to clarify my thinking about agnogenesis.

Dustyn turned ten years old today!! So crazy I have a TEN year old, double digits. He is a sweet, kind, and funny boy. I am so proud of the person he is and is growing up to be. He is an amazing big brother and has such a kind heart. Since he is the oldest he usually ends up getting the brunt of the blame when something goes wrong, but I hope he always knows how much we love him. We went out to dinner tonight and it took FOREVER. He was cracking jokes about how we would never get out of there. I should have recorded some of the stuff he was saying.

Refugees flee across the Mediterranean in an iconic 2015 image from the UN Refugee Agency

Leaders of the EU held a summit that lasted into the predawn hours last week, trying to come to an agreement on the issue of irregular migration. The final agreement is short on details, but appears to be a further step in shirking its responsibilities towards migrants.

Although irregular migration has dropped 90 percent since its peak in 2015, populist politicians throughout the bloc have seized on the issue. Some countries, such as Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, have rejected any attempt to resettle within their borders the estimated 160,000 refugees currently in overcrowded camps in Greece and Italy. As has been the case since the refugee crisis in 2015, this leaves Greece and Italy bearing the lion’s share of the burden of irregular migration, a situation now categorically rejected by Italy’s new right-wing populist government.

Even countries that have taken in refugees are feeling the political strain from the situation. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is Miz Mooz Tinka 0ApUNXiFVQ
with the center-left Social Democrats, with migration becoming the central issue threatening to tear apart her center right CDU party and its more conservative Bavarian CSU allies. Asylum applications in Germany in 2018 are down 20 percent from the same point in 2017, but the CSU wants all asylum seekers previously registered in other countries SOREL Emelie Chelsea Jx4d3d47j
from the German border. Complicating the issue is CSU’s alliance with neighboring Austria and its increasingly far right government led by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz on trying to close the EU’s outer borders. The issue of migration brought Kurz to power, and he looks adamant to continue pushing hardline ideas on immigration as Austria takes over the rotating presidency of the EU.

Chaos and rampant mistreatment in Libya, along with an Lamo Bellona 2 FYZxliSQ0V

through Turkey and Greece. Much like what happened following the controversial EU-Turkey deal in 2016, this will change which countries are left to face the initial burden of irregular migration, as well as which countries will likely see an increase in asylum applications.
